Welcome to Lunar Circus
The Lunar Circus was formed in 1995 in Australia.
For many years we toured throughout Western Australia complete with Big Tops, buses caravans with a collaboration of circus artists and musicians. We took the Lunar Circus show to some remote corners of Australia and the world.
In 2002 we decided to set off on an even bigger adventure. We shipped the touring carnival to Singapore, from where we set off on an attempt to drive through China and Russia to Europe.
After 12 months of adventure driving back and forth between Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia; performing at any opportunity and conducting some quite bizarre community workshop programs, we were defeated.
We returned home to Australia having not accomplished what we set out to achieve, but achieving much more than we set out to accomplish!
The buses are still alive and the artists are still fluorishing.
Since 2004, Lunar Circus has been establishing the Lunar Site in Karridale, 30 kms south of Margaret River between the Blackwood River and the beautiful Hamelin Bay, in the heart of Australia’s South-West corner.
During this time, we established the Lunar Circus School. Each year holding the annual January Summer School with invited international artists and tutors running alongside The Lunar Circus Show in the Big Top in Margararet River.
In 2007, The Lunar Circus moved the summer school to their premises in Karridale and hosted the first Western Australian Circus Festival.
It is now in Karridale, where you can come and live and breath the circus every January holidays. Kids and adults converge on this unique place to train, learn new skills, give something challenging a go, come across new and interesting people and indulge in the life of the circus. Some stay in the dormitories, others bring the whole family and camp onsite for the full 3 weeks.
Every year the Lunar Circus Summer School is followed by the Western Australian Circus Festival with non stop shows from around the world. A celebration of Circus where everyone can come and enjoy the fun.
